Podcast Description

In this eye-opening episode, Bertrand Ngampa shares a game-changing conversation he had with Ron Story Jr., software owner and founder of Speaker Hub. After investing in one of Ron's companies, what started as a support call turned into a revelation about the goldmine Bertrand was sitting on—his published articles in Entrepreneur, Black Enterprise, and Business Insider.

Ron showed Bertrand that corporations pay $10,000+ for speakers with his level of credibility, but Bertrand had no idea how to leverage his status. This episode breaks down the concept of "borrowing status"—how being featured on major platforms, writing for prestigious publications, or appearing on shows like Oprah instantly elevates you in the eyes of potential clients and customers.

Bertrand emphasizes the importance of increasing your status through strategic moves like writing books, contributing to major publications, and building your credibility. He also touches on the reality that first impressions matter, especially for Black men navigating professional spaces where presentation can determine how you're perceived and treated.

Whether you're looking to break into corporate speaking, command higher fees, or simply be taken more seriously in your field, this episode will shift how you think about building and leveraging your status.

[00:00:01] Hey, what's going on, y'? All? So something I'm really excited about. A couple days ago, I had a great conversation with Ron Story Jr Ron Story Jr is a software owner and he buys businesses. [00:00:16] And what is amazing is he's actually the owner of Speaker Hub. Speaker Hub is a place that people can go to learn how to be speakers. And we have, we had a great conversation because I invested in one of his companies and he was helping me with the support, right? And luckily we got on and we just started talking, started vibing and I told him what I was working on and stuff. And what was amazing was he did a Google search for me and he was like that. He saw one person that popped up when you did a Google search is my articles for entrepreneur.com and he saw it. He was like, dude, you should be charging corporations like $10,000 to come and speak. [00:00:56] That gold mine that I'm sitting on and not knowing that the real value of what I have to offer to this world and what I have to offer the people, right? [00:01:05] A lot, a lot of times in the online space, we think, oh man, we gotta charge 10,000, 20,000 to individuals. But there's corporations, I mean, mega million billion dollar corporations that would hire you for your expertise, to come on and speak, right? I have a lot quote, unquote status because I write for entrepreneur.com, black Enterprise, Business Insider, DAO. [00:01:31] I'm going to put you up, put a pitch together for Inc. As well. [00:01:36] But I didn't know how valuable that is because I didn't know how to leverage that. And literally his software can help me leverage that, which I will be going into that, right? And my real message for you today is to increase your status, right? Whether that is you writing a book, that's you going to write for Entrepreneur, Forbes and all those places, right? Build that up and get that credibility. [00:02:04] Because you can borrow status from other people. For example, if you went on Oprah's talk show and Oprah and you can say, hey, featured on Oprah. [00:02:15] Borrowing status from others elevates you in the mind of your customers or the people around you or how people are going to perceive you. [00:02:24] For example, if you walk in with a suit versus walking in with street clothes, the guy with the suit instantly has credibility. And as black men, it is super important that we present ourselves in the right way. Because as they say, first impressions do count, right? So with that being said, hope you have a great day. Remember, increase your status, boost it. And that's going to help you make selling easier walking through life easier and making connections easier as well. All right. Have a good day. [00:02:51] Peace.
