️ Get on Offense: Why Your Money Mindset Might Be Keeping You Broke | 1PM: 123

Today’s episode dives into a hard truth—most people are playing defense with their money. I share a real conversation with a friend who only now feels financially protected because of decisions he made five years ago.

From legal fees to family emergencies, one wrong move can wipe you out if you're not financially prepared. I talk about how that fear used to paralyze me too—until I started budgeting, paying off debt, and building my emergency fund.

This is your wake-up call to get out of survival mode and start playing to win.

[00:00:01] Hey, what's going on, guys? So today I want to share the story about how I was talking with a friend today and we were communicating, and he shared the story that someone tried to threaten him by telling him, hey, you know what? I. They were having a. Him and his son's mother have a situation, and she said, hey, you know what? I'm gonna have my counsel review these notes or whatever was going on, right? [00:00:27] And him, being very intuitive, said, you know what? Great. Send me the counselor's information. [00:00:32] I'll have my counsel reach out so that way they can come to an agreement and we don't have to communicate. [00:00:38] Funny enough, I have a similar situation, right? But the main piece I want to extract from this situation, right, Is that me and him, after talking, he said, you know, if I didn't take my money seriously 5 years ago, I wouldn't be in that position today to be able to move forward and say, you know, have counsel, you know, hire a lawyer and have them on retainer. So that way, any situation happens, right? [00:01:04] And I want to. And what I took from that whole situation that I want to share with you is that starting today, if you feel defensive about the money in your account, if you look at your bank account and you're like, man, you know what? One wrong move can totally take me out, or two people dying, the average people. A funeral costs $7,000. So if one person dies, that's $7,000. If you have a tragedy in your family where maybe a car crash takes three or four people out, you could totally be financially ruined with that. [00:01:35] Or if somebody says, you know, I'm going to sue you, and now you have to go drop five to $10,000 on a lawyer for retainer. [00:01:42] Starting today, I want you to look at your finances. Are you playing on the offensive side or the defensive side? [00:01:49] Defensive. Are you worried that something could take you out, something could go wrong and you feel bad about that, or you're always anxious about your money, or you're on the offensive side where you're like, you know what? I want to invest in this. I want to invest in that. I have so much money left over that I can go and make these other essential investments and grow that money. [00:02:09] If you're not on that offensive side and you're on the defensive side, starting today, make a budget, figure out where you're at, get another job. If you have to pay off your debt, save at least $10,000 until you start looking at any investments. And I promise you, when you have that money saved into your account, you are going to feel different about life. You are going to walk different, talk different. You're going to be more excited to go to work because of how much money you can put away. [00:02:36] When I was able to save 10,000, the first time I ever did that, I felt like I was a millionaire. When I got my first Chase bank account, I felt like I was a billionaire. When, when I got a Chase Sapphire preferred credit card, I felt like I was a trillionaire. I felt like I was so rich you couldn't tell me anything. And money empowered me to work even harder to reach even higher levels in my career, in my emotional life, my relationship with my kids, with my wife, everything. I'm telling you, it's so much better when you have money. When you don't have money, you're super stressed out. You're not the best you you can be. [00:03:10] Alright, so the lesson for today, get right with your money. Get on the offensive side, stop being on the defensive side. All right? Get to work. And remember, it's just the beginning.
